IN THE FLOW WITH TANGO, IN THE DISCOVERY WITH MOBILITY

EGEMEN ALPAY / F+ VENTURES, GENERAL DIRECTOR

“With the advent of digital technologies to the automotive, a revolution took place, waiting to be understood better in the future. A revolution as influential as switching from carts to motor-driven vehicles. Moreover, it transforms other sectors as well. The Fark Labs is a center which researches and learns these new disciplines, and make use of such information. “

We’re Opening Up For The Future

TESLA CHOOSES GERMANY FOR EUROPEAN FACTORY

Tesla’s chief executive, Elon Musk, said Berlin would be the site of their car factory in Europe. The company had considered to choose the UK to locate their factory which would be named as Gigafactory 4 but uncertainties because of Brexit made it risky to put a Gigafactory in the UK. Musk announced with his “Berlin rocks” tweet that they decided on Berlin instead.
The factory, which will start to manufacture Tesla’s Model Y vehicle by 2021, will also produce power transfer components and battery cells.

MOBILITY SOLUTIONS FOR CLIMATE CRISIS

Developments in the area of mobility often overlap with measures taken against global climate crisis. This is true especially when it concerns the switch from fuel using vehicles to electric cars. G20 Brown to Green 2019 report records the approaches taken by countries towards the use of fossil fuel cars. Canada, France, Japan and the UK are leading countries with their plans to phase out fossil fuel cars. China doubled the number of total electric cars in the country and has started implementing progressive policies to shift to public transport.
There are countries getting poor marks as well. The US, Canada and Australia are countries which have the highest transport emissions. The US has 24 times higher emissions than India. Among G20 countries, Australia and Canada have the highest aviation emissions. Australia, the US and the UK are ranked as the first three countries which have the highest aviation emissions per capita among G20 countries.

BOEING & PORSCHE TEAM UP TO CREATE A “FLYING CAR”

Boeing, Porsche, and Aurora Flight Sciences, a subsidiary of Boeing, have teamed up to create a “flying car” and are currently developing “a concept for a fully electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle. With the introduction of such vehicles which are anticipated for urban use, the mobility will extend to air space as well.
Namely, we might soon see an electric flying taxi!
“Porsche and Boeing together bring precision engineering, style, and innovation to accelerate urban air mobility worldwide,” said Steve Nordlund, Vice President and General Manager Boeing NeXt.
According to a study by Porsche Consulting, the urban air mobility market will likely boom after 2025. The study also suggests that urban air taxi solutions will be a quicker, more efficient, and affordable method of public transport.
In their announcement, Boeing and Porsche highlight their focus is on “premium mobility,” which suggests that they will release a high-cost option before scaling the technology and lowering manufacturing costs.

WHY DID I FOUND FARK LABS?

The Fark Labs dream was built upon the principle of adapting to change, and even more, to drive transformation itself. With 50 years of Farplas experience behind us, we are determined to solve newfound and complex issues regarding mobility that lie ahead of us. There is still a lot that we don’t know about the future, which is why I define Fark Labs as “the place where we innovate the unknown”.

Even though our driving point is issues regarding mobility, our aspirations aren’t limited to only one field. If I was to put it in one sentence, Fark Labs is a transformation machine.

So, what are we attempting to change? Ourselves, first of all. This is why our focus is based primarily on mobility. Our main sponsor Farplas, to put it shortly, specializes in manufacturing automotive parts. Since this field transforms itself every couple of years, the sector’s name changes with it too, becoming mobility instead of automotive. Mobility is the new movement, and we embrace this movement by creating an innovative and flexible establishment like Fark Labs.

We do pretty much everything you could think of about mobility and what it encompasses. To those who are unfamiliar with the term mobility, we introduce CASE: Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electrified. These are the key factors in ensuring success in mobility. Connected platforms analyze the data that are collected by vehicles to make them more meaningful. We do this with Comodif, one of our inner investments. Our investment company, F+ Ventures, is a learning establishment that we built to better understand the mobility/entrepreneurship sector. We learn as we invest, both prior to it and after.

We chose to call ourselves a laboratory because calling us a “holding” would make us sound dull and monotonous. On the contrary, it is very much possible to create change in a small laboratory. This is exactly why we brought together our profits from 50 years of experience, forgot that we were a “holding,” and embarked on our journey to reinvent the future of mobility technologies.

As I mentioned before, our investments contain a wide range interests and technology. We exist beyond mobility as well.

In the coming age, one of the most vital aspects of business will be human resources, or simply talent. There will be times where the employees of a company will test the company rather than the company testing its employees. This is of course if you are good at what you do. We chose to call this Talent/Ability and decided that Fark Labs should have such a division. I’m also the creator of Arya Women Investment Platform and no matter how women-focused Arya may seem, it is in reality below the ability category. Digital transformation has begun but it is not yet completed. We know that 75% of especially large companies aren’t able to conclude the digital transformation that they initiate. This means that there is still a lot of progress to be made in this field. We gathered our investments regarding hotel, cuisine, and art under the Food & Culture category. Each of these aspects are gathered together under the umbrella of Fark Labs where they find their place and purpose, organized by innovative techniques.
